노보노디스크의 비만치료제 '오젬픽'

도널드 트럼프 대통령이 미국 내 약값 인하를 추진하는 가운데 덴마크 제약사 노보노디스크가 일부 환자들에 대해 당뇨·비만 치료제 오젬픽의 가격을 절반으로 낮추기로 했다.

미 경제매체 CNBC는 노보노디스크가 18일(현지시간) 건강보험이 없는 미국 환자들에게 판매하는 한 달 치 분량 오젬픽의 가격을 기존의 약 1천달러에서 499달러(약 69만원)로 인하한다고 밝혔다고 보도했다.

소비자들은 오젬픽 공식 홈페이지나 이 회사의 직거래 온라인 약국인 '노보케어' 등에서 현금으로 할인가에 이 약품을 구매할 수 있다.

특히 노보케어는 처음으로 오젬픽의 가정 배송 서비스도 제공한다. 의약품의 소비자 직접 판매는 백악관이 우선 과제로 추진해온 사안이기도 하다.

주 1회 맞는 주사제인 오젬픽은 노보노디스크의 대히트작으로, 당뇨 치료가 주목적이지만 체중 감량 효과도 있다.

미국에선 최근 몇 년간 이 약품의 부족 사태가 벌어지며 똑같은 유효성분을 이용해 만든 복제약이 불티나게 팔렸고 이에 따라 안전성 우려가 일기도 했다.

파이낸셜타임스(FT)는 다만 이번 할인으로 혜택을 보게 될 환자는 소수에 그칠 것이라고 전했다. 노보노디스크는 오젬픽 이용자의 98%가 건강보험을 통해 이 약을 구매하며 25달러 이하를 지불한다고 밝힌 바 있다.

노보노디스크는 앞서 지난 3월 체중 감량제 '위고비'의 가격 역시 499달러로 낮추기도 했다. 이날 발표 뒤 이 회사 주가는 6% 상승했다.

노보노디스크와 그 경쟁사인 미국 제약사 일라이릴리는 트럼프 대통령의 의약품 관세에 대한 우려와 약가 통제 정책, 치열한 경쟁, 복제약의 등장 등 악재를 겪으며 올해 들어 시가총액이 총 2천520억달러(약 350조원) 줄었다.

FT는 이번 인하 조치가 미국에서 유독 약값이 비싸다며 제약사들을 비판해온 트럼프 대통령의 승리라고 평가했다.

트럼프 대통령은 지난달 노보노디스크를 비롯한 제약사 17곳에 서한을 보내 미국에서 약값 인하 조치에 나서라고 촉구한 바 있다.
